The article deals with the classification of statistical variables cited in the foreign as well as in the Czech literature. It focuses on Stevens's approach to the measurement of statistical variables and corresponding classification of the variables. The authors discuss some issues relating to Stevens's classification that are included in books written by Berka, Kazmier, Pohl, Van Matre, Gilbreath, Triola and Keel.
